Job Description

The City of Sacramento’s Community Development Department is seeking a Senior Engineer for its Building Division, Plan Review Section. This is a continuous posting that stays open until filled, with application cut-off dates on the third Friday of each month, reflecting an ongoing need rather than a single vacancy round. The advanced journey-level role covers complicated civil, structural, electrical and mechanical engineering work: plan review for the most complex development projects, preparing plans and estimates, supervising lower-level staff, selecting and managing consultant engineers and contractors, preparing grant applications and environmental assessments, and presenting information to City Council and commissions.

The ideal candidate has experience plan-reviewing or designing complex buildings and structures and a mastery of the California Building Code. Minimum requirements are a bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, four years of professional-level engineer experience, and a California certificate of registration as a professional engineer. With supervisor approval, intermittent remote work may be possible, but incumbents must live within the Sacramento region or be able to report to a City physical worksite at short notice. The salary range is $107,874.49 to $151,790.24 per year. Applications are free through the City’s official GovernmentJobs posting.
