Job Description

Rainmaker builds and deploys audacious technologies that work with nature to create an abundant, habitable planet. The company is modernising proven cloud-seeding science with weather-resistant unmanned aircraft systems, radar and satellite observations, numerical weather prediction, novel sensing and validation systems, and sustainable seeding technologies, building an integrated system to make more freshwater available to farms, ecosystems and communities. Rainmaker’s software connects these systems, supports field operations and turns each operation into data that improves the next one. The company is hiring a Software Engineer to own its production infrastructure and security.

The Software Engineer, Infrastructure will own production infrastructure end to end, setting the standards for how services are deployed, monitored and recovered, and building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and test infrastructure for rapid agentic development. The scope includes cloud infrastructure, deployments, observability, identity and access, secrets, vulnerability management, incident response and recovery, building remote systems that work 24/7 and accommodate lost communications, because storms do not wait for business hours. The role balances rigour and security with the need for engineers to move quickly, and works across software, science, aircraft engineering and field operations.

Applicants should be software engineers with experience building production infrastructure, who are fast, thoughtful, autonomous and opinionated, and willing to relocate to El Segundo, CA. Rainmaker cares more about what candidates have shipped than their degree or years of experience, and is looking for people who have built and operated production systems, with deep familiarity with AWS and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Pulumi or Terraform, experience managing secrets and credential lifecycles in a fast-moving environment, and experience designing or maintaining zero-trust, WireGuard-based networks, as the company runs almost everything on Tailscale. Benefits include significant stock options, a 401(k) with employer matching, full health coverage, relocation assistance, unlimited PTO, paid parental leave and lunch provided when working in the office.
