Job Description

Brex is hiring an AI Engineer, Workbench to join the Finance Agents team in San Francisco, CA. Brex is the intelligent finance platform that enables companies to spend smarter and move faster in more than 200 markets. By combining global corporate cards and banking with intuitive spend management, bill pay, and travel software, Brex enables founders and finance teams to accelerate operations, gain real-time visibility, and control spend effortlessly. Brex’s AI-native automation and world-class service eliminate manual expense and accounting tasks for customers so they can focus on what matters most. Working at Brex allows you to push your limits, challenge the status quo, and collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the industry.

AI at Brex

AI Engineering at Brex is redefining how businesses run their finances by building intelligent, autonomous systems directly into the Brex platform. Our teams develop AI agents that don’t just surface insights — they take action, optimizing spend, managing workflows, and making real-time decisions on behalf of our customers. By deeply integrating proprietary financial data with product and platform infrastructure, we’re turning complex financial operations into simple, automated experiences and setting a new standard for how modern finance works.

What you’ll do

As an AI Engineer on our Finance Agents team, you’ll build Brex’s Agent Workbench: our singular conversational interface where all Brex AI agents converge. Your first substantial project will be evolving the existing workbench into an extensible platform that can host many agents on a shared foundation. You’ll establish the agentic design system with the technical depth to connect interaction design to the underlying agent architecture. This role will be based in our San Francisco office. We are a hybrid environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and build a reusable agent workbench platform that supports multiple agent personas and enables rapid development of new agent experiences
  • Design and implement extension models, integration protocols, and application architecture that connect agents to Brex’s data and workflows
  • Build and ship customer-facing workflows that combine conversation with documents, charts, spreadsheets, and other interfaces
  • Partner with frontend engineers, agent teams, Product, and Design to turn ambiguous user needs into polished experiences
  • Own features from design through production and iteration: talk directly with customers, investigate issues, and improve the product based on real usage

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of software development experience delivering customer-facing applications
  • Experience building or contributing to a production grade agent, agent harness, workbench, or agentic platform
  • Experience in application architecture and integration design, with the ability to translate interaction design into agent architecture
  • Deep familiarity with agent clients such as Claude, ChatGPT, and OpenCode, grounded in sustained use
  • Strong product judgment and ownership in ambiguous environments. You work effectively across engineering, product, and design

Bonus points:

  • Full-stack experience spanning rich frontend interactions, backend services, APIs, and data modeling
  • Experience building IDEs, developer tools, real-time collaborative applications, or similarly sophisticated products
  • Experience designing extension systems or reusable application platforms adopted by other teams
  • Professional experience shipping LLM or agentic products, including human-in-the-loop workflows and traceability
  • Experience with financial software or other consequential workflows where transparency, traceability, and correctness matter

Compensation: The expected salary range for this role is $216,000 – $240,000 USD.
