Notion is hiring a Data Engineer, Product, based in San Francisco, California. This is a full-time role in the Engineering department. About the role
You will design and build datasets that support all of Notion’s internal product usage and decision-making. You will help ensure data quality for decision-making across the company. Data is a foundation for Notion — you will help enable quickly iterating on data to rapidly sharpen product decisions, allowing Notion to scale decision-making beyond instinct and raw feedback loops. You will partner with engineering and product teams on building infrastructure, processes and data-driven culture, and will build and secure strong relationships with cross-functional teams.

This role is based in Notion’s San Francisco Headquarters. We work from our offices on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays (Anchor Days) because we do our best thinking and building together in person.

What you’ll achieve

• Design, implement and operate reliable core datasets for the data and analytics team and the Notion product and engineering teams
• Operate and extend ETL processes used by Notion product teams and to make data-driven decisions
• Architect, develop and improve the performance, health, stability and velocity of our ELT/ETL and datalake / data warehouse infrastructure
• Work closely with the Data and Analytics Team, Product and Engineering teams to build infrastructure and processes that enable efficient and high-quality data collection and release on time
• Help develop company-wide culture around using data (e.g., promote + teach best practices, review quality of data etc.)

Skills you’ll need to bring

• 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, designing and building core datasets and ETL processes
• Expert skills in SQL and Python, Java and/or Scala
• Interest in product data and production systems: you have a proven track record of working with engineers and product teams
• Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure, Snowflake/Redshift) and tools such as Airflow, DBT and Spark
• Expertise in data modelling, ETL design, and datasets that support decisions
• Strong product instincts, a good understanding of a product engineer’s needs and pain points, and you can iterate quickly

Nice to have: experience with ETL from business systems like Stripe, Salesforce, AdWords, LinkedIn Ads, etc.; experience with end-to-end (from scratch) project implementation (including design, building, deployment, monitoring, retrospectives and improvements); experience with large-scale/real-time data processing (e.g., Kafka, Flink).

Compensation
Notion is committed to providing highly competitive cash compensation, equity and benefits. For roles based in San Francisco or New York City, the estimated base salary range is $179,000 – $200,000 per year.
