Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, an acute hospital serving the Barnsley community, is appointing an Acute Oncology Nurse Specialist (reference C9163-2697E-10-2026) to join its Cancer Services team at Band 7. The post-holder will provide specialist assessment, advice and support to patients presenting with acute oncology problems, and will also support patients referred with malignancy of unknown origin (MUO) and cancer of unknown primary (CUP). Duties include triaging AO, MUO and CUP referrals from primary care and internal hospital teams, undertaking specialist assessments of acute oncology patients, managing and coordinating a patient caseload with autonomous clinical decision-making and referral, working closely with the MDT lead and wider multidisciplinary team to coordinate pathways, collaborating with chemotherapy, haemato-oncology, specialist palliative care and site-specific teams, advising patients, families and healthcare professionals, educating clinical teams, and contributing to audit, quality improvement and service development. The successful applicant will play an important role in the ongoing development of the Acute Oncology Service. Applicants must hold current first-level NMC registration, be educated to degree level or hold equivalent experience, and bring significant post-registration experience at Band 6 or above, including post-registration experience in the care of oncology patients. A postgraduate acute oncology qualification (or willingness to work towards one), an assessing and mentoring qualification, and evidence of ongoing CPD are also essential. Job type: Permanent, Full-time, Flexible working. Location: Pogmoor Road, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, S75 2EP, United Kingdom. Salary: £49,387 to £56,515 a year, pro rata, as stated on the posting.
