Job Description
San Diego State University (SDSU) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Intelligent Systems and Applications (ISA) in the Department of Computer Science, with an expected start in Fall 2027. The role is expected to help turn advances in intelligent systems into impactful real-world solutions across areas such as embodied robotics and control agents, intelligent cyber-physical systems, intelligent networking technologies, smart health and healthcare informatics, AI-enabled clinical decision support, smart databases, and smart infrastructure and transportation, as well as other core areas of computer systems and artificial intelligence.
Candidates should have research expertise in the design, analysis, and/or deployment of intelligent systems that can learn, adapt, perceive, reason, or make complex decisions in dynamic, real-world environments. Required by the date of application are a record of original research and scholarly accomplishments, a demonstrated capacity to develop a vigorous and independent program of research and scholarship in Intelligent Systems and Applications, the ability to teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses, and demonstrated past accomplishments and/or future plans in at least two of the “Building on Inclusive Excellence” criteria. Required by the date of hire is a terminal PhD in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a closely related field. Preferred qualifications include a strong technical and theoretical understanding of intelligent and AI systems, algorithms, and models; experience applying complex intelligent agents to cross-disciplinary domains; a record of publications, presentations, and/or funding; potential for securing extramural funding; and preparation for teaching students from diverse backgrounds.

Salary: Anticipated salary range $110,000 – $115,000, as stated on the posting (period not stated).
