Job Description

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting Health Care Assistants for its inpatient mental health services across three wards: an adult acute ward and an older persons ward in Taunton, and a low secure forensic ward in Bridgwater. Assistants build therapeutic relationships with patients, help with personal care, nutrition and daily activities, encourage recovery-focused activities, and observe and report changes in wellbeing, working alongside nurses, occupational therapists and doctors. The trust welcomes applicants from all career stages, provides a full induction and training, and asks candidates to state their ward preferences when applying.

Pay is listed as £25,760.00 to £27,476.00 yearly (Agenda for Change Band 3) (as listed).

Key duties and requirements:
– Employer: Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. Location: Taunton and Bridgwater, Somerset (wards at Wellsprings Hospital, Taunton, and Broadway Health Park, Bridgwater).
– Employment type: Permanent, full time (24-hour rotational shifts including nights, weekends and bank holidays).

– Applicants must be willing to work towards NVQ Level 3 in direct care or the Certificate in Care if not already held. Previous experience in a caring, supportive or people-focused role is essential; mental health experience is desirable.
