Authorities began evacuating people along India’s eastern coast on Monday, 2 November 2026, a day before severe cyclonic storm Murasu is expected to make landfall in the early hours of Tuesday.
Around 2,000 people had been evacuated and the process was continuing, with plans to evacuate some 30,000 people, Prakhar Jain, managing director of the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, told Reuters on Monday.
Murasu formed over the Bay of Bengal, and India’s Meteorological Department expects Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, on India’s south-eastern coast, to feel the brunt of it.
It is the second cyclone in a week for the region: last week’s Cyclone Arnab killed six people and destroyed dozens of houses and crops. Murasu is expected to be less intense than Arnab.
