Grenada’s ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has won a landslide victory in the country’s general election, taking 14 of the 15 seats in the House of Representatives and securing a second consecutive term in government.
Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell’s party won 37,369 votes, or 61% of the valid ballots cast, in Thursday’s election, against 22,567 votes (36.8%) for the opposition New National Party (NNP), according to preliminary results from the Parliamentary Elections Office.
The NNP, led by Emmalin Pierre, held on to just one seat, St George North West, where Adrian Joseph polled 2,052 votes. Pierre lost her own seat in the election.
The result is a sharp change from the 2022 general election, when the NDC won nine seats to the NNP’s six. It is the first time the NDC has won back-to-back general elections since the party was founded in 1987.
Turnout was 63.3%, with 61,460 ballots cast from 97,031 registered voters, down from 69.5% in 2022. The results remain preliminary, pending an official recount by the Parliamentary Elections Office.
