The FBI said on Saturday that North Korea was responsible for the theft of more than $6 billion in virtual assets from cryptocurrency exchange Binance.
According to the FBI, North Korean actors were observed laundering the stolen assets by converting them into ethereum. The agency said it expects “further laundering stages” for the stolen digital assets.
This follows the breach reported earlier this week, described as the biggest crypto heist ever, with an estimated impact of $6.3 billion. Binance had said it worked with partners to freeze affected assets, with about $3 billion located, and co-founder Yi He said the company would cover all hacking losses.
