Position Announcement
The Department of History and Political Science at Utah Valley University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in History Education beginning in Fall 2026. The position is a nine-month appointment with a 4/4 teaching load. The successful candidate will teach Upper-Division and possibly M.A. level courses in History Education, courses in their areas of specialization, and surveys that align with their academic training and teaching experience. This position will also assist the department in oversight of UVU’s Concurrent Enrollment instruction in history courses. Preference will go to candidates whose research broadens the History faculty’s existing geographic and chronological expertise. Candidates must have experience teaching in a college or university setting and show evidence of commitment to engaged teaching, active scholarship, and service. The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility in modalities and schedules that accommodates History and Social Science Education and M.A.T. students’ availability and work commitments.
Application deadline is November 6. The application must include a cover letter, CV, graduate transcript, writing sample, teaching statement, and contact information for three references. PhD in History or related field must be completed by date of appointment. The search committee expects to conduct first-round interviews online in January. Summary of Responsibilities
- Teach 4-4 course load (or service/administrative equivalency) of lower and upper division undergraduate class including surveys, areas of specialization, and department service courses.
- The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility in modalities and schedules that accommodates History and Social Science Education and M.A.T. students’ availability and work commitments.
- Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up. Establishes and maintains office hours. Performs other job related duties as assigned.
- Maintains currency in fields of expertise/research/pedagogy. Assists department chair, faculty, and staff in maintaining an effective program, including advisement and recruitment of students, curriculum development, program changes, etc. Serves on committees and attends meetings as assigned. Conducts self in professional manner.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master’s degree in a direct or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in History or related fields must be completed by date of appointment.
