The death toll from Russia’s attack on an aid distribution point in Komyshuvakha village, in the Zaporizhzhia region of southeastern Ukraine, has risen to 40, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Wednesday 4 November 2026. Dozens are still unaccounted for, and more than 30 people are possibly still under the rubble.
Russia on Monday dropped several bombs on a building where residents of Komyshuvakha received humanitarian aid every week. Ukraine called the attack a double-tap attack, saying Russia then hit an underground shelter with people inside.
Zelenskyy had said on Tuesday that 33 people had been killed. He called the attack one of the deadliest of the war launched by Moscow in February 2022.
Ukrainian police released bodycam footage from one of four officers killed in the strike. The officer is heard ushering people to an underground shelter after a radio warning of incoming guided aerial bombs, and people are seen in the shelter before the explosion cuts the footage to black.
The UN human rights mission in Ukraine said on Tuesday the bombing likely violated international law.
Zelenskyy said, “As of now, 40 people have been reported killed. Unfortunately, some bodies have not yet been identified.”
