Cyclone Murasu Makes Landfall on India’s Andhra Pradesh Coast, Second Storm in a Week

Severe Cyclone Murasu began making landfall on India’s eastern coast early on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, according to Reuters.

The IMD said landfall began at 1:00 a.m. local time (1930 GMT on Monday) over the coast of Andhra Pradesh in south-eastern India.

The storm is the second to strike the region within a week. Cyclone Arnab, described as a very severe cyclonic storm, made landfall in Andhra Pradesh the previous Wednesday and killed at least six people.

Authorities began evacuating thousands of people on Monday and planned to move about 30,000 people to safety in Andhra Pradesh.

Forecasts ahead of landfall put sustained winds at 100-110 kmph, gusting to 120 kmph, with the storm expected to cross the coast between Nellore and Narsapur, near Ongole. The IMD forecast that Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu would be worst hit.

The storm formed over the Bay of Bengal.
