Mass shootings over the Halloween weekend, largely in nightlife districts across the United States, left at least six people dead and dozens injured, officials said, according to the Associated Press.
The deadliest violence was in Dallas, where three shootings in the Deep Ellum nightlife district on Saturday night killed four people and injured 15 others over about an hour and 15 minutes; police said investigators had not yet determined whether the three shootings were related, and no officers were injured.
In Birmingham, Alabama, one person was killed and eight others were wounded in two shootings just outside Legion Field after the annual Magic City Classic football game on Saturday night, with two people listed in critical condition on Sunday.
In Newark, Delaware, six people were shot late on Saturday near the University of Delaware campus and taken to hospitals.
A shooting early on Sunday near Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois, left a 19-year-old woman dead, another woman in critical condition and six others with injuries that were not life-threatening.
In Fayetteville, Arkansas, six people were taken to hospitals with gunshot wounds from a shooting early on Sunday near the University of Arkansas, which police said followed an altercation; no arrests had been made there.
Separately, two people were killed in shootings at Halloween stores on Friday, one in Fairfield, California, and one in Madison Heights, Michigan.
Investigations into the separate incidents were continuing, and the circumstances of several of the shootings were still unclear.
